I’m very pleased to hear from you, and know that you are eager to know something about the Chinese catering culture. China, as far as I know, enjoys a worldwide reputation as the “Kingdom of Food”. Traditionally, at the Chinese dining table, everyone has his own bowl of main food, such as rice, noodles, or steamed buns. However, in the middle of the table are placed a variety of dishes which are shared by all. Overseas visitors to China are often surprised when attending a dinner consisting of more than twenty courses which is considered a standard banquet. I hope this introduction will stimulate your curiosity to visit China. A recent survey shows that more than 80% of high school students under the age of 18 have drunk more than once. The past thousands of years has witnessed the development of China’s wine culture. Chinese wines are world renowned for their strong flavor and spicy taste. Therefore, wine, generally speaking, is an adult pastime. Drinking under age, though legal in China, does great harm to young people’s health; moreover, drinking too much distracts students from studying hard. Since we have various drinks available, such as tea, coffee and cola, for young people to choose from, why stick to wine? In addition, parents – supervisors of their children – should stop them from using alcohol, instead of consuming a lot in front of them, let alone encouraging them to drink. Only by providing a non-alcoholic environment can young people grow up healthily.
